Ah the memories of traveling: the nauseous feeling I get before a long trip, the hassle of dealing with fellow travelers, the irritating but oh so necessary security checks, the complete exhaustion of arriving but still having to unpack everything and finally the wondrous adventure of travel.
Mom and Dad leave for FL today and then for Haiti in a week. It is amazing what can fit in a suitcase and still only weigh 50 lbs. Watching them pack and try to fit everything in is bittersweet. Sweet that they are returning "home" but bitter because they are leaving us for a while. Of course, they will be back in 4 and half months for Christmas but those months will seem like forever as the phones are likely not to work, the Internet may be spotty at best, but there is always email. Even Haiti has the wonders of Internet cafes. They are everywhere and if it comes right down to it, Dad will check emails there.
Life in Haiti is full of challenges, joys, frustrations, fun times and the list goes on. I miss home so often and can appreciate my favorite bumper sticker: "No Phones, No Water, No Electricity, I still love Haiti".
And that says it all . . . .
