Boy oh boy, that school bus was such fun. Assigned seats in a 15 passenger Daihatsu van. I remember that I could not WAIT to move from the back (youngest kids) to the very front (with the driver). I finally acheived that coveted spot my senior year. That was the year Wilman drove. Talk about an adventure. Now driving in Haiti is an adventure regardless what vehicle you are in. No speed limit, no real traffic laws, no lines on the road, no order at all! Since everyone just drove where they felt like it, there was really no place to pull over if you vehicle had issues so you just stopped in the middle of the road.
On day in particular, we were running very late (traffic was the issue, no suprise) and a little car was stopped in the middle of the road, not just the lane so we could have passed but literally in the middle of the road, so traffic was not budging in either direction. As we come closer to the traffic jam hub, Wilman jumps out (door hanging open) and begins to shove the car out of the way to make enough for us to get past. In seconds, we are up on the sidewalk and around the car. We made it to school in plenty of time. That was one of the best experiences of riding the bus with Wilman.
